Erik Knight, CMT, having received over 720 hours of Massage Therapy training, I am licensed by the city of San Francisco as an Advanced Massage Practitioner. I have an Associate degree from Sonoma College in Sciences of Massage Therapy. I am currently at California’s Institute of Integral Studies to continue my education in Integrative Arts with an emphasis on Somatic Psychology. I specialize in Swedish, Sports, Tui Na, Reflexology, Shiatsu, and Deep Tissue. I am also an experienced observer of human posture. I practice a unique Corrective Massage Therapy that incorporates stretching and range of motion while helping relieve pain caused by postural asymmetries and issues. At Hayes Valley Acupuncture Center we offer a drug-free, non-invasive and humanistic approach based on the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Massage provides relief to people of all ages—from infants to seniors—and from all walks of life—the weekend or competitive athlete to the home gardener or overstressed, overworked executive.
Hayes Valley Acupuncture Center addresses a variety of health conditions, the most prevalent being stress-related tension, which, experts believe, accounts for 80%-90% of disease. Massage has been proven beneficial in treating cancer-related fatigue, sleep disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, low back pain, immunity suppression, spinal cord injury, autism, post-operative surgery, age-related disorders, infertility, eating disorders, smoking cessation, and depression, to name just a few.
Massage, bodywork, and somatic therapies are the application of various techniques to the muscular structure and soft tissues of the human body. The application of massage, bodywork, and somatic therapy techniques may include, but is not limited to, stroking, kneading, tapping, compression, vibration, rocking, friction, pressure, and those techniques based on manipulation or the application of pressure to the muscular structure or soft tissues of the human body. This may also include non-forceful passive or active movement and/or application of techniques intended to affect the energetic systems of the body. The use of oils, lotions, powders, or other lubricants may also be included. Massage, bodywork, and somatic therapies specifically exclude diagnosis, prescription, manipulation, or adjustments of the human skeletal structure, or any other service, procedure, or therapy that requires a license to practice orthopedics, physical therapy, podiatry, chiropractic, osteopathy, psychotherapy, acupuncture, or any other profession or branch of medicine.
